Joel Notes from Zambia

A Word for the Youth Today

July 28, 20262 min read

Joel Notes

My Brothers and Sisters,
I want to have a sincere conversation with you about where we are as young people today.

1. Protect Your Mind

The world is loud, with phones, social media, and the pressure to emulate certain individuals. However, don't let these external influences define your identity.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Romans 12:2

Unfollow what tears you down and follow what uplifts you.

2. Develop Skills, Not Just a Following

Likes and followers are fleeting, but skills can sustain you and your loved ones. Acquire practical skills like farming, coding, tailoring, mechanics, business, or content creation.

We're living in a time where problem solvers rise above the rest. Start with what you have and leverage free resources like YouTube or find a mentor.

3. Choose Your Associations Wisely

The people around you will either inspire growth or drag you down.
Surround yourself with individuals who motivate you to pray, work hard, learn, and dream big.

"Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.”

-Corinthians 15:33

Be discerning about who you consider a friend.

4. Live with Purpose

While it's essential to enjoy life and have fun, also ask yourself, “What’s my purpose?”

Serve others, help those in need, mentor younger ones, and contribute positively to your community.

Purpose gives you the resilience to overcome challenges.

5. Prioritize Your Faith

Life's pressures, including jobs, finances, education, and relationships, can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them alone. Pray, read Scripture, and seek guidance from mentors.

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe" -1 Timothy 4:12

This is how we make a lasting impact.

This week, let's take on four challenges:
1. Acquire a new skill for 30 minutes daily
2. Serve someone selflessly
3. Disconnect from your phone for an hour each day to focus on your faith or learning
4. Lift up a friend who’s struggling

Young people, your time is now, and your potential is limitless.
Zambia and the world need young individuals with integrity, skilled, and bold in their faith.

Let's rise to this moment.

Thank you for taking time to read my notes from Zambia.
